Diversity Program Update
Walton
Construction launched its Diversity Program in 2005. The overall
intent of this program was to affect positive change in our culture
and the surrounding communities where we work and live. This program
has three major components; personnel recruiting, strategic
partnership alliances and community outreach. Each component creates
career and business opportunities and promotes growth in the
construction industry for minorities and women. Below are some
examples of our accomplishments through this program.
Personnel
Recruiting- We are
continuously expanding our recruiting efforts for minorities and
women. We have developed relationships with several HBCU’s
including Florida A & M and North Carolina A & T. Some of our
partners include the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, the Full
Employment Council, Youthbuild, NAWIC and Cristo Rey just to name a
few.
Strategic
Partnership Alliances (SPA)-With the
assistance of our community oversight committee members, we selected
five minority and women-owned businesses to partner with. We
provided these strategic business partners with bid opportunities,
training, and coaching. Each of our partnerships is mutually
beneficial and helps to promote growth for Walton and our partners.
Community Outreach-We continue
supporting many community organizations including the Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce; the Mid America Minority Business Development
Council; The Urban League of Greater Kansas City; the Asian American
Chamber of Commerce; the National Association of Women in
Construction; and the Black Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas
City. |
