Bartle Hall
Expansion & Ballroom
In 1994, Walton Construction
completed construction of the Bartle Hall expansion that
would define Kansas City’s skyline. The project marked
the rebirth of Kansas City as one of the nation’s
premier meeting and convention destinations. Completed
on schedule in July of 1994, this expansion gave Bartle
Hall 388,800 square feet of column-free exhibit space,
making it the largest exhibition hall of its kind.
Walton’s work also included 55,000 square feet of
additional space, 45 meeting rooms, a 2,400 seat fine
arts theatre, 10,700 seat arena, 200,000 square foot
conference center, and encompassed 211,000 square feet
of tenant finishes.
In 2007, Walton Construction delivered another Bartle
Hall landmark project: The Grand Ballroom. Both the 1994
expansion and the Grand Ballroom addition span over
Interstate 670, a six-lane highway that bisects Kansas
City between the Traditional Downtown “loop” and other
quickly growing districts. Bartle
Hall reconnects these areas by providing
pedestrian passage through both suspended glass and
below-ground walkways.
“This expansion
could not have been possible without the commitment
demonstrated by the contractors who helped to complete
the project.”
Honorable Kay Barnes, Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri,
Regarding the Bartle Hall
Grand Ballroom
