Whitside Barracks Walton is overseeing this $56 million design-build military contract. T he project consists of five barracks that will house 780 soldiers. Each barrack, designed for single soldiers at Fort Riley, will include two separate bedrooms with closets, shared kitchenette, and bathrooms. An outdoor recreation area and running trail are also being constructed.This 282,500 square foot project was designed for three additional barracks as well as a physical fitness center and dining facility. The Whitside Barracks is the second project at Fort Riley awarded to the Kansas City Division of Walton Construction. Designers say that the barracks have the feel of a “quality hotel,” providing military personnel with many at-home comforts. The project team includes the owner, US Army Corps of Engineers, and architect, VOA.
